Yamabuki Ogon
Yamabuki Ogon Koi, also known as Gold Ogon Koi, have a solid, metallic-yellow body. Their color ranges from a deep gold to a vibrant yellow. Unlike other koi varieties with intricate patterns, Yamabuki Ogon’s simplicity lies in their stunning yellow hue. They can create a wonderful contrast when placed alongside patterned koi in a pond.
Variations:
Gin Rin Yamabuki Ogon: This variation features a sparkling, reflective scale pattern (gin rin) on its metallic-yellow body.
Doitsu Yamabuki Ogon: These koi have a smooth, scaleless back (doitsu) and maintain the same vibrant yellow color.
Ideal Characteristics:
Clean Scalation: Look for uninterrupted, blemish-free scales. Any scars or irregularities will be noticeable due to their single-color body.
Clear Head: The head should be clear and free of blemishes. A dirty head stands out on all Ogon varieties.
Yellow Tones: Yamabuki Ogon can vary in tones of yellow, from light and vibrant to a more solid marigold-like color.
White Fins: Ideally, they should have solid white fins, with or without patches of yellow at the base of the pectoral fins.
These elegant koi are a favorite among hobbyists and experienced aquarists due to their gentle nature, strong body shape, and ease of care. Their golden brilliance adds a touch of magic to any pond!
